Cowherd was born in the city of Aberdeen in the state of Washington. His dad, Charles, was an ophthalmologist, and his mom, Patricia, a British-born homemaker who came to the United States at the age of 14, died in 2014. Marlene, his elder sister, is his only sibling. Cowherd was born and raised in Grayland, Washington, a modest fishing hamlet approximately 130 miles south of Seattle.

Due to his dad’s drinking, his parents split when he was young, and he and his sister were reared primarily by their mom. During his early days as an adolescent, Cowherd describes himself as a resvered being. He used to invest a lot of time on his rooftop listening to baseball matches on the radio.

In 1982, he graduated from Westport’s Ocosta High School. Cowherd was an All-Far West Conference quarterback for the soccer squad and an All-Far West Conference guard for the basketball squad in high school. Instructor Jim McElwain (current Central Michigan University soccer head coach) was Cowherd’s flatmate at Eastern Washington.

Colin’s Career

Cowherd started his profession as the play-by-play announcer for the Las Vegas Stars, the San Diego Padres’ Triple-A club. He eventually moved to KVBC in Las Vegas, and he was crowned Nevada Sportscaster of the Year five times.

He served as a weekend sports host at WTVT in Tampa, Florida, from 1993 to 1995. He went to Portland, Oregon in 1996 to work for KGW-TV as a sports anchorman The Herd switched from an afternoon slot on all-sports radio KFXX to a morning drive schedule in 2001. Cowherd started his broadcasting professional life as the sports director of KVBC in Las Vegas and a sports anchor on a few many stations prior to entering ESPN in 2003.

He had an ESPN Radio program and was one of the first hosts of ESPN’s television series SportsNation and Colin’s New Football Show. Cowherd is the host of Fox Sports Radio and The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports 1.

The Herd is by far the most-watched studio program on FS1. He was previously the host of Speak For Yourself on FS1.In 2021, Cowherd developed and established his podcast channel, “The Volume.” Cowherd declared in July 2015 that he will depart ESPN once his contract with them expired due to a contentious remark he uttered regarding Dominican baseball players.

In August 2015, it was announced that he would join Fox Sports in September, with his radio program transferring to Fox Sports Radio and Fox Sports 1 as part of the arrangement. Cowherd was barred from ESPN on July 24, 2015, although he was planning to leave at the end of the month, following the contentious statements he delivered on The Herd the day before.
