He is the present and five-time World Champion in freestyle (eight-time medallist), as well as three-time Pan American Games Gold medalist, four-time Pan American champion, and four-time US Open National Champion.
He has also made the US World or Olympic Team ten times. Burroughs was a two-time NCAA Division I champion in folkstyle for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, receiving the Dan Hodge Trophy in 2012. Burroughs is from the Winslow Township, New Jersey neighborhood of Sicklerville. At the age of five, he carried back a wrestling flyer from elementary school becoming the first person in his household to wrestle.
He went on to Winslow Township High School, wherein he was a three-sport player who competed in wrestling, American soccer, and track. He wanted to be a wide receiver in the NFL, but he gave up his ambition to focus on wrestling as a freshman, weighed 130 pounds.
In his senior year (06′), he was a three-time district champion, two-time regional winner, state (NJSIAA) champion, and NHSCA National champion. He finished with a record of 115 victories and 20 losses.
